The Austrian recorder player Michael Oman founded the Oman Consort in 2001. The Ensemble offers the finest baroque music from the 16th - 18th century collected from various european countries. Here the ensemble has attempted creative improvisations in order to integrate moments of intuition and inspiriation. Special emphasis is given to the strength and variation of the basso continuo group (harpsichord, chest organ, viola da gamba, renaissance lute, colascione, baroque guitar and theorbo) that brings out the pure sound and style of the recorder.

For special projects the group includes additional talent, both instrumental and vocal (e.g. Vivaldi – Concerti per flauto).
The Consort focuses on expressing the rhetorical tradition of baroque music. Their first CD “Musica Britanica”, (live recording) – published by the ORF label “Edition Alte Musik” – received great attention from the media. The CD was awarded with the "Goldberg 5", the highest prize given by the internationally renowned magazine "Goldberg".
